To build continuity throughout the live illustration process for the Scottish Climate Assembly, I was asked to work the entire final three day weekend event for the members. The focus of the event was to analyse and discuss the Scottish government’s response to the 80+ recommendations for tackling Climate Change. We heard from experts, assembly members and ministers about the proposals and I documented as much as I could at speed!
Using the six SCA brand colours I used A3 paper as a base for the drawings so that I could tile them together if required. I used water based pens so that I could add a little depth with a wet brush before scanning and sending them on so they could be used throughout the weekend and the following week. Mostly I did the actual real time drawing in pencil and redrew in ink, simply due to the amount of time it takes to change and lid pens! Lesson learned - next time I intend to choose just 1-2 colours per session and rotate them.
I’ve enjoyed working for the SCA; the impacts humans have on the global environment is an issue I’ve been engaged with since childhood so to be involved in bringing their message to more people is certainly on brand. I’ve learned so much more about policy and the steps government, companies and communities could take to improve wellbeing and tackle the climate emergency.
