Winner of the Scots Language Award for Bairn’s Book of the Year 2022!
Full colour book featuring thirty-five well known nursery rhymes, imaginatively translated into Doric by Gordon M Hay. His wonderful translations of classic children’s rhymes are playful and cheeky, matching the rich, full colour illustrations. Every page contains hand-drawn colour pencil illustrations by Rosemary Cunningham, richly coloured with watercolours to bring the rhymes to life.
The Doric branch of Scots language is spoken in the North East of Scotland and has a charm all its own. Many of these rhymes are translated with a North East twist, so look out for some surprises along the way! The book comes complete with an illustrated glossary detailing all the Doric words used in the text. An excellent learning tool and a beautiful book to share with a child.
